Śrīla Rūpa Goswāmī appeared in 1489. He was one of the renowned six goswāmīs of Vṛndāvan. He was a government minister for his early life and upon meeting with Śrī Chaitanya Mahāprabhu he retired to pursue devotional life full time. He was selected by Mahāprabhu as the head of his sampradāya (disciplic succession) and took the responsibility of properly presenting Mahāprabhu teachings in the written form. His temple is the Govindajī Temple and his samādhi now stands at the Rādhā Dāmodar Temple near the banks of the Yamunā River. He departed from this world in 1564.
